Company fire in Glasgow being treated as arson
A blaze, which occurred on the business premises of a company based in Glasgow and left the firm with around £12,000 worth of damage, is being treated by police as wilful.
The fire was started at Nimms Enterprises in Glentanar Estate, Maryhill last Saturday evening with emergency services called to the scene at 1850 BST.
The fire was put out by fire personnel and no persons were found to be present in the building at the time.
However, following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fire, local police have declared that the industrial estate blaze was started deliberately. The police are now appealing to any witnesses to get in contact with them.
Detective Constable Stephen Cooke, of Strathclyde Police, said:
“This has been a huge loss for the company owners, as well as its employees, and the whole event has caused them a great deal of stress.
“Enquiries have revealed that this fire was started deliberately and therefore I’d like to speak to anyone who has any information that could help trace the person or persons responsible.”
These kinds of incidents are becoming more and more commonplace across the UK. Therefore, it is important for all businesses to take the threat of arson seriously and ensure their fire alarm systems have remote monitoring in place to guard against these threats.
