Investigation launched into oil refinery fire fatality
It has been reported that the Health and Safety Executive have started an enquiry into a blaze at a North East Lincolnshire oil refinery where one person was found dead and two other were treated for injuries.
The fire, which began at Lindsey Oil Refinery in North Killingholme around lunchtime on Tuesday this week, required around 50 firefighters to get it under control and finally extinguish it.
The units affected by the fire had to be shut down, although production at other areas of the plant continued to operate.
Those who witnessed the blaze recalled there were a number of explosions and high flames which tore through the crude distillation unit.
The company has since released a statement confirming there had been a fatality at the oil refinery. The body of the 24-year-old Grimsby refinery worker was recovered late last night following searches at the scene and emergency services have now relayed the news to the victim’s family.
This was not the first industrial plant fatality in the area this year. A man was killed in an explosion back in March at Millennium Inorganic Chemicals in Stallingborough. If you work in dangerous environments such as these, it is imperative that you consider fire safety training.
